Geeky with a Side of Pi Contest

Hey, guys! I have short story in an anthology out tomorrow. Covalent Bonds is the romance anthology for geeks and the people who love them.

My short story is called “The Hacked Match” and, oh my goodness, I stressed so hard over getting my hacker just right. So, so much. Luckily, my husband is a high-level network engineer and one of my best friends is as geeky as they come. Also, the anthology’s editor is no slouch in geeking herself. But, still, so stressful. I hope you’ll check it out and make all that stress pay off.

In The Hacked Match, FBI consultant Aubrey Lowen is more than a little intimidated when she’s sent to gain the cooperation of her hacker idol, Seth Lawrence, while keeping her government cred on the down-low. Seth Lawrence, aka Savage Linx, had his hand slapped by the FBI once upon a time and he knows the gorgeous, shy geek girl isn’t playing straight with him, but being seduced into compliance might be worth taking a chance again. This security convention is heating up faster than an ancient processor with inadequate airflow and broken fans. But what will happen when Aubrey’s cover is blown? And will what happens in Vegas, stay in Vegas?

To celebrate the release of Covalent Bonds, I’m giving away a Mal Pop! figure. (Captain Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly.)

Here’s the scene where this figure first shows up–when Aubrey’s boss is explaining the proposition:

“Why not just hire him for that problem and then get his help on the other problem?”

“It’ll sound better coming from you. You go in. You go to his lectures. Fangirl him a little during the consult. You’re staying in the same hotel. I even got you the next room over from him. Maybe you bump into him in the hallway. Find a way to mention you live in the Bay Area too. Bam. You’re in like Flynn.”

She winced. This was awful. Then, she narrowed her eyes. “In like Flynn?”

Her boss smiled. “This will work.”

She went back to shaking her head. “It won’t. It can’t. You don’t understand—I don’t date. I’m bad at it. I’m too shy and guys think I’m a huge nerd.”

Carter gestured down at the file on his desk. “That’s the beauty of it. He is too! You’re exactly his type.”

Aubrey slumped in her seat. Right. A guy like that was dying to spend time with a quiet brunette who spent her Friday nights watching Firefly over and over again. This was going to blow. “I’m taking my lucky Mal Pop! figure.”

“I don’t know what that means, but he probably is too.”
